The Ralliers is a collection of interviews with female creators we admire. We look for women who make hard choices in exchange for self-defined lives. You'll leave these stories with wisdom, comfort and beauty too.
Describe yourself.
Hello! My name is Deborah Hanekamp but you may know me as Mama Medicine.
How have you broken with tradition in exchange for a self-defined life?
Wow what a beautiful question. I knew at a very young age that I wanted to participate in inspiring healing in the world. Because there were no universities for what I wanted to do I began finding my own teachers, guides and learning more about the magical healing properties of nature. I began facilitating healing work at the age of seventeen. By the age of twenty four I had already built a pretty solid following and had to start taking being a business woman seriously!
Through universal healing ceremonies, aura readings, and expansive perspective shifts I guide people to be their own healers through 1:1 Medicine Readings, my online community Space by Mama Medicine and world wide retreats.
Love is the true healer and we all have the power of love within us, so in a way you and the Love within you is your most powerful healer.
To keep it simple, Love is the true healer and we all have the power of love within us, so in a way you and the Love within you is your most powerful healer.
Tell us about your uniform.I really like to dress in a way that expresses all the aspects of who I am and then allow that to vary by how I feel. The Brooklyn mom, the flowy water goddess, and the woman who loves to run and play are all parts of me that make up my personal style.
What do you most want other women to know?
Trust your intuition! Keep promises to yourself and don't be afraid to shine brightly.
What are you searching for?
I am an eternal student so there is a lot that I haven't quite figured out and I'm happy to have unanswered questions. One question that I ask myself often is; How can I most be of service to all sentient beings?
What brings you ease?
Always and forever Ritual Baths bring me the most peace.
Share a good read, watch, or listen.
Right now I'm currently awestruck by the book Undrowned by Alexis Pauline Gumbs. It is so very beautiful and gives a unique perspective in human connection to nature. I also really love the movie Juliette of the Herbs because she was so awesome!
Tell us about something you've just discovered.
One thing I want to share that I've recently discovered is a new found trust in myself, in this wild and unpredictable life. Maybe it's from all the transformation that has taken place in the last year for us all collectively or maybe it's because I'm getting older. But I'm learning to trust myself more and doubt myself less.
Tell us about a gift you gave someone.
As a working mom in a single income household one of the most valuable things I can give someone is my time. Recently a friend reached out in need of some deep emotional support so I tuned it and showed up with healthy boundaries and healing in mind.
